Design and bookbinding services for collectors
of comics and other printed media who want
to create their own custom bound volumes.
I am working on a custom cover for a collection of this series and had never seen it before! I was blown away by the art and plan to get this series for myself.
I am working on recreating covers for 18 books. A single customer sent in the 18 books with the covers already designed but they were not built to the correct resolution. The designs are great so it has been fun rebuilding them. It has also been a bit frustrating because I have other bindery duties to perform so I don’t get to work on the covers for more than a couple of hours at a time.
Next week will be quiet at the shop(s) so I plan to get these finished and start posting images.
Had a recent Skype conversation with a potential customer and he was showing me his design for a project he wants to do which has a book and a slip case. Cool design! I am now trying to figure the best way to produce it for him.
I was asked by the client to change a 4 book order to the art-on-cover style from the originally requested dust jackets. Not a problem, I build everything in layers so it was easy to do the conversion.
Question for you who have read or bound Streets of Gotham - Do any of the Manhunter backups share a page with the main story?
With Avengers: CC coming to a close, I think it is about time I sort out my Young Avengers material to bind.
Originally I thought of only including the Heinburg stuff and the Young Avengers: Presents with Avengers: CC, but now I'm wondering if I should include the tie-ins for completion sake. Apparently the Young Avengers' story doesn't end with CC, so I need to keep that in mind...
Anyway... is anyone doing a similar bind? I figured given their recent exposure, this might be a popular project.
Map:
Young Avengers #1 - Young Avengers #8
Young Avengers Special #1
Young Avengers #9 - Young Avengers #12
Young Avengers Presents #1-6
Avengers: CC #1-4
Avengers: CC - Young Avengers #1
Avengers: CC #5-9
Just wondering about the 'LIVE' pages in #8 that you fold out, since it's already folded in away from the edge of the page. Did you still fold it when you sent it off or did you just leave it as is?
Thanks!
I just got back my latest bind from Herring and Robinson. Inspired by DC's Retroactive line, I put together a Marvel Retroactive book consisting mostly of Ed Brubaker's work on the Marvel Universe in World War II. I included the Marvels Project, the Captain America 65th Anniversary issue, and the most recent arc of Captain America and Bucky. I rounded things out with a run on Wolverine Origins that included Cap and Bucky, two issues of Ultimate Origins, and the two Fighting Avenger issues from a year or so ago.
Sad to see it coming to an end. And yet happy enough to have had it to read! I'm thinking I may have it bound, because I dig it so much!
Tips for usable artwork:
So its been officially announced.
For my condo, I have a bunch of documents that were bound together with a clear plastic front and back cover. I included a picture of the spine below (sorry if it's not clear enough, I can take better shots when I get home). What I want to know is if this process can be used for comics. The cover had the URL for http://www.unibind.com printed along the spine, which sells equipment to make such bindings.
I've been thinking about pulling together a multi-volume set around The Shadow. Has anyone done this? I haven't mapped it out yet, but some initial ideas were:
1. The Shadow 1987-1989 DC Series (1 volume, 21 issues)
2. The Shadow Strikes 1989-1992 DC Series (2 volumes, 32 issues along with Chaykin Mini-Series?)
3. Dark Horse Mini-Series (movie adaptation, Hell's Heat Wave, Coils of the Leviathan, Shadow and Doc Savage)
I'm sure there are a handful of other appearances I could add, but am I missing anything big????
So I recently won an auction on eBay and one of the Daredevil OHC books is missing the front endpaper/sheet on the inside of the front cover -- between the book cover and the title page.
Is there a recommendation for me putting in my own? I'm guessing I shouldn't use any old piece of paper and glue?
Does this really matter that much longevity-wise?
I'm not worried about the effect on the value; I got it for a great deal and don't have plans to sell anytime soon.
Any suggestions or recommendations on what to do, if anything?

Thanks for the help!
In looking back over my bookshelf and the John Byrne Hulk TPB that Marvel released, it reminded me of how much I loved that storyline as a kid and got me thinking to make my own binding of it. The problem is though, I can't remember where a good stopping point would be. The issues that I will be including so far are, Hulk #314-324, Annual 14, and Marvel Fanfare 29. Is there anything else that could be included or is there a better stopping point than #324?
Thanks everyone!
Was surfin around and came across this site...

A lot of logo's there. Anyone seen this before?
This is my map of what I consider to be essential to the universe surrounding The Protectors. Rather than using absolutely everything that was branded “Genesis” after the fact, I only used books that tied pretty directly to The Protectors, and chucked the rest. I'll be binding it into two books, one pre-Genesis, one post.
Book 1
Protectors 1-4
Arrow 1Book 2
Ex-Mutants 11
Gravestone 2-3
Ferret 5-6I'm looking to bind Our Worlds at War and wondered if anyone has created a map for it? Especially for the one-shots and crossovers like Young Justice.
My latest shipment from Herring & Robinson arrived this last week. The set includes titles as indicated in the below photo, among which are quite a number category groupings (SF, Horror, Action) . This is in service of my "mega mapping" plan to bind most of the Epic Comics line, discussed here. Many thanks to dansteinberg for helping me complete my Epic Mega Map. All books are done in bonded leather (an extra $5 per volume), with the standard font like that used at LBC, over sewn, trimmed, single head lines, spine stamped. Color selection is by genre, loosely. I will map out each volume in a follow on reply:
I asked on the other binding forum, but to no avail. I know an All Star Squadron logo was posted awhile ago and a die was actually made. I have no problem paying for the die to be made at H&R, but can anyone help with locating the file or possibly help in making the black and white logo?
I got a few books back from the binder and they turned out great.
A pretty basic Batman book that I will continue doing as I get the issues.
And the one I am really excited about is the Daredevil Volume 2 book. I wanted the spine to be a little different and I wasn't sure if it would turn out, but I am happier than I expected with it. The tough part is going to be duplicating the spine edges with future volumes.
I am doing a bind of X-Cutioner's Song and I have the cards originally with each issue, but I am not sure how to include the cards themselves. I have thought about scanning them and making a few pages. Anyone have ideas or seen this done before?
