4/29

Picked up 4 finished books from Snow Dog. They included two soft covers and two hardcover volumes.

This one is being given to Lou on Free Comic Book Day by Krypton Comics of Omaha, NE.

Spent the evening working on soft cover designs.

4/28

Worked on more emails and pricing requests.

4/27

Spent the evening trying to catch up on emails and pricing requests.

4/26

Busy day working on designs and following up on details for projects. I can always tell when there has been something posted on the web about Single Bound Studios because I get a new wave of pricing requests.

4/25

Up early to have breakfast with Kevin and Robert at Capitol Bindery. Picked up 8 finished books and dropped off three books to be worked on. I looked through the various rolls of cloth and was lucky to find some stock of a discontinued color in order to match a previous job. We talked about some additional colors that are being discontinued including a shade of green that a lot of customers use.

Got the eight finished books photographed, packed and shipped out.

Unpacked a couple of boxes that arrived over the last week to find 8 more books to be made into hardcover volumes.

Created layout sheets for 15 books. I will email these to clients on Sunday morning.

Hardcover Score Card
9 books at Capitol to be bound.
34 books at my house wating to go to the bindery. (15 need prep, 9 waiting on client feedback, 10 being held back because of an emergency.)

Up early to finish organizing books going to Capitol on Saturday and work on soft cover designs.

4/23

Up late to work on prep for the books that will go to Capitol on Saturday. Worked on 11 designs for soft cover projects that I hope to finish this weekend.

4/22

I worked on changes and revisions to projects going to the bindery this weekend. Still catching up on email request for pricing and information. I am starting to get some nice email comments on the revised web site. Travis still has some things to polish for me but all in all I like what he has done.

4/21

I finally finished up three 2-page Table of Contents pages for a ROM project. I spent quite a bit of time trying to make the Table of Contents fit into 1-page per volume but I didn’t like it so I finally gave into the idea of two pages.

I have been answering quite a few emails lately. The most frequently asked question I get asked is “what is the difference between a $15.00 at LBC and a $50.00 book at Capitol?” I usually answer in minute detail but I now realize the real answer is philosophy.

Well all the visiting is over and I am back to doing design work on various projects.

4/18

Shipped two boxes of books today. No visits to either bindery because I still had family visiting so I worked on various design projects between gab sessions.

More and more current customers and new customers want to have a conversation with me about projects rather than just emails. So I have signed up for Skype (user name dpbanks) and have been conversing with other bookbinding fans.

Looks like Travis at http://www.tk421creative.com has made the new version of my site live! I was off today from my day job because my oldest son and his girlfriend were in town to visit my ailing mother-in-law. So I didn't get much design work done today because of all the visiting going on.

Another busy day. Answered emails, packed some books and worked on several soft cover designs. Life is good!!

4/15

Up early to get emails caught up. Interest in what Snow Dog and Capitol Bindery can do seems to be growing every day. In addition to the emails I have received, Kevin (Capitol Bindery) has been receiving phone calls regarding the Miracleman book from potential customers.

Here is another sneak peak at the revised site design. Some parts of it are functional now. Comments are welcome.

Stopped by Snow Dog and Picked up five image-wrap hardcover volumes. Beautiful stuff! One more beta test to go and we’ll start taking official orders. I also dropped off two soft cover volumes and two image-wrap volumes for Todd to work on.

Hardcover Score Card - Snow Dog
0 books at Snow Dog to be bound.
4 book at my house waiting to go to the bindery.

Stopped by Capitol Bindery to talk to Kevin and leave off 4 books to be worked on. We discussed at length another project that consists of very old X-Men and Captain America comics. Kevin told me that he had to spend and average of 4 hours each in prep work before the books could even been sewn. Sigh. I am going to lose money big time on this job but… at least the long time customer will have a quality product to read over and over again.

Hardcover Score Card
14 books at Capitol to be bound.
29 books at my house wating to go to the bindery. (1 special volume that will be dropped off when Capitol can sew it immeiately, 7 which just arrived and need prep, 9 waiting on client feedback, 10 being held back because of an emergency, 3 being held back to work on additional details.)

4/13

Did the final prep on orders to take to Snow Dog and Capitol Bindery on Tuesday and organized new orders in order to do layout sheets, etc.

4/12

Spent part of a fun day working on Table of Contents pages and Dust jacket details for a three-volume ROM set. In my mind these have to match. I am really pulling out all the stops on this project because I see it as a show piece on several levels.

New drive has arrived and I am transferring files as fast as I can. I should be able to get back to work on Saturday!! Yeah!

4/8-9

Away on business but I did not have to travel. Just involved in meetings that went from early in the morning to late at night. Several packages have arrived but I haven't had a chance to unpack them.

4/7

Bad day. I had a drive fail or so I thought. On this drive is all my Single Bound Studios work. Could not get the computer to mount the drive. In the middle of the night I wake up and have an idea. The drive has both Firewire and USB. I was using Firewire cable and the drive would not mount but when I switched to USB cable the drived mounted!! Immediately I go online to order a new drive for my files (yes in the middle of the night).

Had breakfast with Kevin and Robert at Capitol Bindery. Picked up 9 finished books and dropped off 6 new books to work on. We had a long discussion about eBay auctions and some of the prices Capitol Bindery bound volumes have been bringing in.

Got the new books photographed and pre-packed for shipping. Spent the rest of the day doing administrative things for various projects.

Snow Dog had worked out the bugs on normal comic sized image-wrap volumes but this 5 volume set of magazine size comics had Todd and I going back to the drawing board. We finally got all the details worked out and this was the result. The covers are based on cutomer design suggestions.

4/2

Worked on designs for several soft cover volumes.

Having a little fun.
