Worked on covers for four hardcovers being produced by Snow Dog.

Had Breakfast with Kevin at Capitol Bindery. Dropped off four books to work on and discussed an eight book project and a 15 book project with him. Both contain books from the 60s and 70s. Both have special needs for some of the volumes.
Here are a couple of dust jacket ideas for two anthology books.

5/29
Picked up 5 revised dust jackets from Brad at Tilford and got them over to Todd at Snow Dog for lamination. Did final prep for four books going to Capitol in the morning.

Up early to work on prep for various hardcover volumes that will be going to Capitol Bindery. I am still sifting through a 15 volume set of Captain America, making notes to go over with Kevin at Capitol.
Met with Brad at Tilford to drop off five dust jackets for him to output for me. This is the second go around for these five dust jackets. Being a perfectionist I decided a few changes needed to be done. I'll keep the first batch as samples.
Met with Todd at Snow Dog and dropped off 19 books to be made into softcover volumes.
Soft cover Score Card - Snow Dog
19 books at Snow Dog to be bound.
0 book at my house waiting to go to the bindery.

5/27
Up early to finalize prep for the last of 19 soft cover volumes going to Snow Dog on Thursday.
Shipped out 13 finished hardcover volumes. Held back two volumes to finsih working on Dust Jackets.

5/26
Worked on building customer designs for four hardcover books that will be going to Snow Dog.

This is what custom binding is all about. Here is a collection of appearances by some supporting characters.

Spent part of the day photographing and packing the 15 hardcovers I picked up on Saturday from Capitol.
Another fun part of the job is implementing other people's design ideas. It would have never occured to me to do the "folder" approach to a cover.

5/24
Another series that I was not aware of.

5/23
Had breakfast with Kevin at Capitol Bindery and then picked up 15 finished books. I am making dust jackets for two of these books.

Hardcover Score Card
0 books at Capitol to be bound.
46 books at my house wating to go to the bindery. (15 being evaluated, 12 ready to go, 9 waiting on client feedback, 10 being held back because of an emergency.)
One of the benefits of this job is I get to see comics I hadn't seen before. In this case Fighting American by Liefeld & Friends.

Brigade seems to be a popular series to bind.

5/20
Worked on cleaning up scans for two hardcover dust jackets. Heard from Kevin at Capitol that there will be books to pick up on Saturday. Heard from Todd at Snow Dog that I can drop off books next Tuesday.
5/19
Finished cleaning up scans for four soft cover books.
5/18
Up early to continue cleaning up scans.
5/17
Spent the day scanning elements for 6 soft cover books and two hardcover dust jackets. Then I worked on cleaning up the images. What is interesting to me is that I had assumed that what I have helped have made into hardcover volumes at Capitol I assumed we would be doing soft cover versions at Snow dog. No so. Most of what we make into soft covers

No trip to the binderies this week. I used the time to continue prepping books for both Capitol Bindery and Snow Dog. It will probably be another week before I visit them to leave work off and pick things up.

The two Miracleman acutions continue to generate a lot of emails for me. Some people are convinced I have multiple sets already bound and that I am a greedy bastard for not selling them a copy. Sigh.
I continue to prep books to go to Capitol and Snow Dog.

I liked this series when it was being published. It was an intersting exercise to this as two soft cover volumes.

5/12
I have never read the Shadow comics. We have bound this series many times at Capitol Bindery but this is the first time for a soft cover treatment.

5/11
I always enjoy working on projects involving John Byrne art.

5/10
These two were fun to do. Spider-Man has always bee a favorite character. I based the designs on two other Spider-Man soft cover volumes done for this customer last year.

5/9
No trips to the binderies this weekend. I am sorry to report that Robert (the senior binder) has gone back into the hospital.

So I used the time to work on soft cover designs and to prep books to take both the Captiol and Snow Dog.

The power of eBay. I have been aware of it for quite a while. In the early days of representing Capitol Bindery I would list books for sale to attract potential customers. Now as the hobby has expanded, auctions of Capitol Bindery customer bound volumes bring fresh pricing requests every day.
Worked on more soft cover designs until I couldn’t see anymore. As always I can see the finished design in my head before I start and then I am impatient with my body for how slow I seem to be when I build the cover image file.

Got the go ahead on the three ROM dust jackets. That was a fun project to work on.
Back to work on 11 soft cover book designs.
5/6
More dust jacket changes.
Another batch of emails arrived regarding the latest Miracleman omnibus auction.

I am surprised that some people think that these are my books being auctioned (rather than a binding customer’s books).

Up early to work on additional dust jacket changes.
An fifteen volume set of Captain America (100-454) arrived today to be evaluated for hardcover binding. All I can say is wow. I sure get to work on some really cool stuff.
5/4
I first worked on changes to three dust jackets. Then I was back to working on soft cover designs for 11 books.

Combined spine image.

The three Moon Knight volumes have laminated inset images on the covers.

Lots of prep by the customer on these two volumes to organize all the serialized stories together.
