Up early to walk, then heard from Tilford that they had three dustjackets ready for pickup. Picked them up and took them to Todd at Snow Dog to be laminated. Then it was off to Krypton comics to pick up some replacement issues for a binding project. Two issues were supplied already mis-cut so it was easier to pick up the replacements. Back at the office I worked on preping books for the rest of the day.
Two books arrived to be made into Capitol Bindery hardcover volumes.

Busy, busy day. Up early for a 2 hour walk. Yes, two hours. Got to be in convention shape for the Mid-Ohio Con. Then it was off to Snow Dog to pick up 14 finished soft cover and 4 hardcover volumes. Then to the post office to mail finished books that I received on Saturday. After that I stopped by Krypton Comics to drop off some Snow Dog soft cover books that they had ordered. Then it was home to photograph and pack the other finished Snow Dog books. Next back to the Post Office to ship more books but they informed me that I can only visit them once a day, "a rule of theirs." They were just kidding. Then it was back home to prep more books. Back to cover building on Tuesday.

Yan sent over a couple images of one of his favorite projects. I think you'll agree he has a flair for the "extreme."

Interesting how there are two different blocks of pages.

Had fun with eBay auctions! (Fun = money)

Had breakfast with Kevin (Capitol), Mike (Bindery 59) and Yan. We continued to discuss plans for the Mid-Ohio Con in November. Yan showed us some of the fonts he has in his collection and a diagram of how he keeps track of them. I plan to mimic his system to post available fonts on the web showing what each bindery has.
Picked up three finished books from Kevin.

Mike said I would have four more books for sure by Tuesday and maybe another 9 at that time also depending on how well the stamping goes.
Todd called and said he had 14 softcovers and 4 hardcovers done and ready for pickup. He might have another 6 hardcovers done by Tuesday.

Heard back from the customer on the stamping sample for some Bindery 59 books. Dropped off the choice to Mike and picked up four finished books from him. I was surprised to hear that white buckram can no longer be ordered.

Lovely set of Hawkman books. Being a Marvel guy I missed most DC comics when they first came out. I enjoyed thumbing through this before packing it.

Stopped by Capitol to show him art for a die being made for a non-comic customer.
Continued to work on designs for various covers.

Spent the entire day working a one-book project. This is a very complex Miracleman project which will probably be the fanciest project we have ever done.

Spent the day building 10 covers (having fun)!

Not a very productive day on the creative side. We had the roof replaced on our house and while they did a great job, the noise played havok with my concentration. I gave up on the creative work and worked on project details like layout sheets, etc.

Well we are committed to the Mid-Ohio Con. I sent my registration info in today.

One of the projects we do on a regular basis is Miracleman. It all started with James several years ago having us bind his issues into a single volume. Travis followed his idea and end up selling his copy for in excess of 2K. Matt followed suit and sold a copy for nearly 1K. Since then we always seem to have a Miracleman project in the shop. Currently we have three at Capitol Bindery being worked on. I also have one that I am still prepping to take to the bindery. I guess my point is that instead of being bored by this, I am actually excited because each new Miracleman project seems to want to out do the previous one. And I get to see the results first! Life is good!
2 books arrived to be made into Capitol Bindery "art-on-cover" hardcover volumes.
8/2
Worked on unpacking books and processing orders. It is interesting how the post office has taken notice of how many boxes I am receiving and how many I am shipping out. Especially on the days where I have some many boxes they load them into a cart for me. Each time I explain the the situtation to a new postal worker they cut me off half into the story by saying "oh you're the book guy, I've heard about you."
11 books arrived to be made into Bindery 59 hardcover volumes.
6 books arrived to be made into Capitol Bindery hardcover volumes.

Took the day off to think about the logistics of prepping for the Mid-Ohio Con. Kevin, Mike and I talked about it at length and we came to the consenus that I should exhibit for the three binderies (Capitol, Bindery 59 and Snow Dog). More details to come.
Because I represent three different book binderies you can have your books bound five different ways.
1. Capitol Bindery “art on cover” (high-end) hardcover starts at $65.00

2. Capitol Bindery stamped (high-end) hardcover: Basic sewn book starts at $50.00

3. Bindery 59 stamped (no frills) hardcover: Basic sewn book starts at $25.00

4. Snow Dog Image glue bound hardcover: $39.95

5. Snow Dog Image glue bound soft cover: $19.95

Dust jackets are $30.00

Once you have decided which kind of book you would like made I can email you ordering information.
